House on the Bay

The residence is located along the Florida coast with an unobstructed view of the Florida horizon. Its site lends to the influences of the Sarasota School of Architecture with horizontality and the outward view being the primary organizing factor. Embracing the horizon of the land and the influx of water within the site, the organization of the living spaces were separated into volumes & thus suspended above its surrounding site. The large ramp procession from the ground floor towards the living spaces bifurcates the dwelling into private and public spaces. These two volumes are then carved to allow natural light to reach the open ground floor spaces. Constructed with a palette of board and batten concrete, weathered steel, and cedar wood soffits; these lower maintenance materials provide a tonality that blends with the Florida landscape while also withstanding the harsh marine climate.
